Renewables Cross 100 Billion Units in a Single Quarter for the First Time
Solar generation rose 39% year-on-year to 51 BU in Q2 FY2026-27 and supplied a tenth of India's electricity, CREA analysis shows.
Renewable energy sources excluding large hydro generated 101 billion units (BU) of electricity in the July–September quarter, the first time the segment has crossed the 100 BU mark in a single quarter, according to an analysis by the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA).
Overall power generation grew 11% year-on-year to 536 BU, while peak demand touched a record 270 GW. Solar was the fastest-growing source, with output climbing 39% to 51 BU, giving it a 10% share of total generation for the first time. Wind generation was up 29% at 45 BU.
Solar also set a daily generation record of 705 million units on September 30. Combined non-fossil generation — renewables, hydro and nuclear — reached 177 BU, or about a third of the total.
Renewable capacity additions in the quarter (about 7 GW) far outpaced new thermal capacity (about 0.8 GW), the analysis noted.
