India's Wind Capacity Reaches 59.2 GW; Government Expects Record FY27
After a record 6.05 GW in FY26, the MNRE says wind additions could hit 7.5–8 GW this fiscal as it targets 100 GW by 2030.
India's installed wind capacity stood at 59.2 GW as of September 30, 2026, Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi said while opening Windergy India 2026 in Chennai.
The sector added a record 6.05 GW in FY2025-26, and the minister said he expects that figure to be beaten in the current fiscal. Ministry officials have separately indicated FY27 additions of around 7.5–8 GW, with about 2.4 GW added between April and August.
Industry body IWTMA said domestic wind manufacturing capacity has grown to more than 24 GW a year, and that about 43 GW of projects are under implementation. It also flagged that Indian turbines remain 10–20% costlier than Chinese equipment, and called for stronger R&D and testing infrastructure.
The government's stated goal is 100 GW of wind capacity by 2030 — which will require annual installations well above current levels.
